KLIA Terminal 1 Improves E-Hailing Pick-Up Flow

KLIA Terminal 1 Upgrades E-Hailing Pick-Up Experience

KLIA Terminal 1 has introduced new improvements to its e-hailing pick-up area from Aug 4, 2026, as part of a wider effort to make arrivals faster, smoother and easier for passengers. The changes are intended to reduce confusion at the terminal, improve vehicle movement and give travellers a more reliable process when meeting their booked rides after landing. For passengers, the upgraded arrangement should make the final stage of the airport journey feel more organised, especially during busy arrival periods.

Smarter Pick-Up Facilities Now In Place

The enhanced system brings together License Plate Recognition technology, Passenger Information Display Systems, self-service kiosks, dedicated waiting lounges, structured pick-up bays and on-ground marshals. These additions create a more controlled environment where passengers can wait with clearer information, while drivers are directed through a better-managed pick-up route. The result is a system that supports both convenience and order, instead of relying only on kerbside coordination during peak traffic.

Key Improvements For Passengers And Drivers

  • LPR system helps identify vehicles entering the designated area.
  • Passenger displays provide clearer ride and pick-up information.
  • Self-service kiosks support passengers who need on-site assistance.
  • Waiting lounges offer a more comfortable space before boarding.
  • Pick-up bays improve traffic flow and reduce kerbside congestion.
  • Ground marshals assist with coordination and passenger movement.

RM3 Entry Fee For E-Hailing Vehicles

Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said a RM3 entry fee will apply to each e-hailing vehicle entering the designated passenger pick-up zone at Level 1 of the Main Terminal Building. The fee is meant to support the operation, upkeep and maintenance of the new facilities and digital systems. While the charge affects drivers entering the zone, the purpose is to keep the upgraded service functioning properly and to maintain a more consistent passenger experience over time.

Ten-Minute Kerbside Limit Remains

E-hailing vehicles will still have a maximum waiting period of 10 minutes at the kerbside pick-up area. Vehicles that exceed this limit may be subject to penalty charges. The rule is intended to prevent long dwell times, keep bays available for incoming vehicles and support smoother traffic circulation. By keeping pick-ups moving, the airport can reduce bottlenecks and help more passengers connect with their rides without unnecessary delay.

Tighter Control Against Unauthorised Activity

The upgraded set-up is also expected to help KLIA Terminal 1 monitor access more effectively and limit unauthorised e-hailing activity. With digital recognition and structured entry controls, airport operators can better ensure that only approved vehicles use the dedicated pick-up facilities. This should create a safer and more predictable environment for passengers, drivers and airport staff, while reducing informal activity that can disrupt traffic flow around the terminal.

Part Of KLIA’s Passenger Experience Push

MAHB said the improvements form part of KLIA’s wider plan to enhance passenger convenience, optimise traffic movement and improve airport operations. The initiative followed engagement with e-hailing operators and coordination with the Ministry of Transport and the Land Public Transport Agency. It also aligns with recommendations from the National Airport Facilitation Working Committee, reflecting a broader push to modernise airport ground transport and improve the arrival experience at Malaysia’s main international gateway.
